Windows XP support finished

Windows XP support finished

On April 8th Windows XP support finished, in most cases anyhow.
Larger Government or Corporations can pay $5million or so dollars a year to continue support temporarily.

What does this mean for the end user, will Windows XP stop working?

No, you can still continue using Windows XP (not sure why you would want to) simply what it means is Microsoft will no longer provide any kind of update or security patching to the operating system.
So if you decide to continue using it, you are running the risk of being attacked or infected with a virus or trojan.

What are my options?
It really depends, in my experience most of the people using Windows XP still are running it on older hardware which will probably not work very well with a modern OS like Windows 7 or 8.
So realistically you have two options, upgrade to a newer computer.

Look at an alternative OS.

There are many available that are free, but I would personally point people toward Linux Mint

Now you may have a preconceived idea that Linux is complex, while it can be Linux Mint has done a fantastic job of creating a true Desktop OS.
The installation and use of Linux Mint is very much user focused.
